Year 6 pupils of William Martin Junior School celebrated the end of term with a singalong led by the Sawbridgeworth Acoustic Strummers to songs from World War 2.
During the term, the children learnt all about the war as well as comparing the conflict between 1939 and 1945 with the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. This has given the pupils the chance to engage with history in a hands-on and immersive way by interacting with song and a little bit of dancing with the Sawbridgeworth Acoustic Strummers.
Year 6 teacher Laura Campbell said: ” What a wonderful way to end our World War II topic! The children have really enjoyed learning about this era of history and have fully immersed themselves into their learning. Our VE Day style celebration with a live band really brought to life the war time spirit – an unforgettable afternoon!”.
As the afternoon was such a success it would be more than likely to see more school visits from the Sawbridgeworth Acoustic Strummers in the future, giving the pupils to envision history come alive and create a memorable learning experience for all.
