The children at Latchingdon Church of England Primary School have been throwing themselves into a variety of fun-packed activities during the lead-up to Easter.
Celebrations started with classes making a collection of Easter cards for United in Kind, a charity that aims to tackle loneliness and isolation through acts of kindness. The children created some beautiful cards that are being posted to members of the local community who are having to spend Easter alone. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to show off their creativity and spread some happiness around the community.
Art continued to play an important part in Latchingdon’s celebrations, which saw children from the Archbishop of York Young Leaders Club and Worship Group create some wonderful paintings depicting the Stations of the Cross. These paintings were displayed during the school’s special Easter service, which was led by the Reverend Peter Begley. In his sermon, the Reverend brought the Easter story to life with a heartfelt rendition that all the pupils found very engaging. At the end of the service, each child received their own palm cross to take home to their families.
The school’s Easter celebrations ended with an exciting Easter Egg Hunt, where the Red Squirrels and Hedgehogs classes braved strong winds and rain to find a special egg with their name on it. The eggs had been hidden all over the school field, making the scavenger hunt even more of a challenge in the bad weather! Despite this, the children had a lot of fun running around trying to spot their eggs.
It’s wonderful to see schools getting their children ready for the Easter celebration with fun and engaging activities- well done!
