To continue their celebrations of the ongoing Easter period, children at Howbridge Church of England Junior School held a special service in their local church. Braving showers of sleet and rain, the whole school walked to St Nicholas’ Church to take part in a variety of fun and celebratory activities.
The school’s drama group staged several short plays for the rest of the year group, acting out several important scenes from the Gospels’ Easter story, with House Captains and Vice Captains from Year Six giving readings to help complete the story. Music also played a special role in the service, as all the children came together to sing songs and add their own actions.
Prayers were written by individual students and read aloud in the Church, reflecting on important themes of thankfulness and positivity. These heartfelt readings were followed by a sermon from Reverend Will Abbott, which encouraged the children to think about how ‘hope’ relates closely to the Easter story.
Lisa Dale, Headteacher of Howbridge Church of England Junior School, said;
“It felt like such a special service, as it has been years since the whole school could worship in the church due to the pandemic, and I felt it was a special moment in the school’s journey. We came together to reflect, celebrate and be a school family.”
It’s lovely to see children from across the school coming together with their teachers and local church to celebrate such an important Christian celebration.
