Pupils and staff at Rolph Church of England Primary School are celebrating this week after receiving a ‘Good’ rating in their recent SIAMS report, with the highest grade of ‘excellent’ being awarded for collective worship. SIAMS, or the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools, involves a thorough exploration of a school’s Christian vision. Throughout the inspection, inspectors look at the provision a school makes because of this vision and how effective it is in enabling all pupils to flourish.
In its detailed report, inspectors praised the passion Rolph leaders have for inclusion, using the example of how seamlessly they have welcomed Ukrainian families into the life of the school. Teachers and other members of the school’s support team take “great care… to know every pupil individually” and create an environment where everyone is treated with “dignity and respect”.
Rated as a separate provision, the impact of Rolph’s collective worship was deemed “transformational”, with the report noting that pupils and adults live out the school’s vision by providing strong values for life. Outdoor learning is a key part of the school’s educational provision. Children enjoy weekly sessions in Forest School, where they are encouraged to explore the natural world and learn about the environment. This has nurtured a strong desire in pupils to make a difference, both now and in the future, to the planet and the local environment.
Karen Jones, Executive Headteacher at Rolph Church of England Primary School, said:
“I am delighted with Rolph’s performance in the latest SIAMS report. It’s fantastic that the inspector recognised the positive impact that our vision and ethos has on our whole school community – particularly around positive relationships and behaviour. Our school is a family where pupils understand the values of forgiveness and respect and believe in the importance of “treating people as you want to be treated”.
