William Martin School’s brilliant pupil, Rachel, has decided to complete an amazing cycling feat, to raise money for bike sheds for her school.
The keen cyclist will be completing a 26-mile cycling challenge at the end of May, with her dad, Dan, riding along the River Stort to the Velodrome at the Olympic Village in Stratford.
Her longest ride to date has been 20 miles when she raised £300 and she has already smashed this record having raised £350 so far!
Rachel’s passion for cycling has been a lifeline during lockdown. She sees fundraising for her school’s bike sheds as a great opportunity for her to contribute to something that will directly benefit her school and the environment.
Gina Bailey, Executive Headteacher, said that since the car park opposite the school has been closed for development, the roads have become busier. “Rachel has helped to highlight the importance of as many children as possible walking (and hopefully very soon) cycling to school, which will keep everyone safer and healthier.
“Installing bike sheds would mean children could ride to school and store their bikes safely on the school site. The school is so proud of Rachel for taking the initiative to organise this fund-raising project all by herself and hope to support Rachel with fundraising to get the bike sheds installed as soon as possible.”
