Children from Years Five and Six at St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School in Weeley visited St Paul’s Cathedral recently to learn all about the important role that the Cathedral played in boosting morale during World War Two.
The children climbed the 528 steps to the top of the Dome to admire the impressive architecture and marvel at London’s skyline. The Dean of St Paul’s and other staff members were very impressed with the children’s detailed historical and Biblical knowledge and praised them for their “exceptional behaviour and manners”. In fact, they were so impressed that they invited the children to sit in the Quire for Evensong, where they listened to the choir perform during a thought-provoking service.
Becky Robertson, Assistant Headteacher at St Andrew’s in Weeley, said: “It was incredible experiencing the beautiful choir singing in Latin. The children were even introduced to the congregation as a ‘lovely little school group from Weeley who were welcome any time to return!’”
