In support of World Mental Health Day this month and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month last month, the children and staff at Southminster have shown their support by wearing yellow and donating money. 💛
World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for communities unite behind the theme ‘mental health is a universal human right’. It strives to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health.
Southminster decided to support and donate to Young Minds and Children’s Cancer and Leukemia Group.
Director of Learning, Becky Fairhead, said, “At Southminster, we wanted to pledge to protect, promote and respect mental health in our communities.”
Throughout the day, the pupils learnt about different ways to look after their mental health and explore what makes them happy. This included:
💛 Drawing pictures to show what they loved
💛 Reading stories about emotions
💛 Writing letters to their future selves
💛Sharing what makes them unique and special
💛Talked about things they could do to look after their mental health and did some of these e.g. read a book, went for a walk, did some stretches and talked to friends.
It sounds as though the pupils had a fantastic day learning more about how to manage their mental health.
