In March, Rachel from William Martin C of E Schools started a fundraiser with her Dad with the aim of raising enough to have a bike shed installed at her school.
Rachel has a passion for cycling and wanted to encourage her fellow pupils to cycle to help the environment and lessen local traffic. She stated, “The whole reason I wanted to do it was because our school didn’t have anywhere to put bikes, but William Martin said they would be getting a shelter and I wanted to help raise some money for it.”
Rachel’s dedication to this project has seen her complete a 26-mile cycling challenge with her Dad and Grandad. The team cycled along the River Stort to the Velodrome at the Olympic Village in Stratford.
“I did a ride last year that raised £300 for a local charity and wanted to challenge myself to do something even longer and we thought the Olympic Park was a good place to finish.”
In the end, Rachel ended up cycling an extra mile, which isn’t a surprise given her determined character!
“It was fun on the ride, but sometimes going up the hills was tricky and riding through London was hard because it was windy and there were lots of people. I got very tired after we’d finished but I feel very proud of myself for riding all the way.”
Rachel has raised over £1,000 in total, which is a huge amount and everyone throughout the Trust is so impressed with Rachel’s commitment to a wonderful cause.
We are certain that Rachel’s desire to make positive changes within her community will see her go very far in future.
Well done and thank you to Rachel, her Dad and Grandad!
