Orsett Church of England Primary School recently welcomed parents and carers to its first ‘Rock Steady’ concert in over 18 months. The Rock Steady programme has proved to be a huge success at Orsett, and has seen leader Simon visiting the school once a week to run interactive music workshops for many years now. Open to all children aged between 4 and 11, the programme aims to inspire musicianship and confidence through teamwork.
During each workshop, the children are taught how to play a wide range of Rock instruments, including drums, lead guitar, bass guitar and keyboard. Inspired by these lessons, the children have since set up six of their own bands, all of which came together to play at the much-anticipated concert. Now that Covid restrictions have been lifted, the children were eager to show off their inner Rockstars and perform to an audience of parents, carers and other pupils.
Everyone loved singing along to a selection of Rock classics, ranging from Ghostbusters and We Will Rock You to Seven Nation Army and Another One Bites the Dust. It was fantastic to see the school community coming together to cheer on each band, with smiles and claps all round. Many more children have now expressed a keen interest in forming their own bands, and have even inspired some of the staff to join in!
