To help its pupils develop a greater understanding of diversity in modern culture, Orsett Church of England Primary School recently created an Amazon Wishlist of books written by authors from a range of cultural backgrounds. The school sent this list round to all of its parents to let them know about the project with the option of making a book donation should they wish to help out.
In the days that followed, the school was flooded with donations from the local community, with the list being shared on Facebook pages across Thurrock. Parents, teachers and alumni from the school were incredibly generous with their donations, which resulted in the school receiving around 80 packages containing a total of just over 150 books!
James Dickson, Deputy Headteacher at Orsett C of E Primary School, said
“I shared the wishlist with our community and we were overwhelmed by the support and donations. We’ve received two years’ worth of books in just two weeks, which has been fantastic!”
The children loved opening all of the packages on World Book Day, and are excited to dive into all of the new books.
