We are delighted to welcome our new Deputy Director of Learning, George Athanasiou, to the Vine Schools Trust.
George brings an impressive portfolio of leadership experience to the role and will be working closely with our other Deputy Director of Learning, Becky Fairhead, to continue developing the Trust’s educational provision.
What is your professional background?
Over the past 16 years, I have worked in a variety of leadership roles across the education sector. I started as a subject leader before progressing to more senior positions in later years, including Deputy Headteacher, Inclusion Leader and Headteacher. This has given me a wealth of experience in tackling the challenges faced by primary schools across the country, like preparing for Ofsted inspections. After completing my training as a SENCo, I fulfilled a secondment as a School Effectiveness Partner for the Local Authority, which left me with a repertoire of skills to bring to my new role.
Why do you enjoy working in education?
One of the main reasons I enjoy working in education is the variety. Every day is different, and I love to learn. It is a rewarding profession that enables me to learn something new every day. I thrive on the challenges it brings and get great pleasure from supporting colleagues along the way.
How do you plan to support our family of schools through your new role?
In this sort of role, it’s integral to put the children first and consider everyone’s wellbeing across the Trust. A big part of this will involve taking the time to listen and using a combination of feedback and instinct to ascertain an action plan. I will be honest with all stakeholders and ensure that the best outcomes for our children are at the centre of the Trust’s decisions.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
When I’m not working, I’m teaching a variety of fitness classes in my local gyms, including dance, spin and aerobics. Travelling is a passion of mine, and I have visited 32 of 46 European countries!
Where is a place that you love to visit in Essex?
There is a lovely walk from Panfield and across to Rayne Airfield that is gorgeous at the weekend. It is very tranquil and offers many opportunities to get closer to nature.
THANK YOU, GEORGE
We wish you a warm welcome to the Vine Schools Trust and are pleased to have you as part of our Central Team.
