Pupils at William Martin Church of England Junior School recently attended a special careers fair, where classes had the opportunity to network with a range of entrepreneurs from different professions.
Among the group of successful entrepreneurs was Apprentice star Dani Donovan, founder of Mermane Extensions, who shared valuable advice with pupils about pursuing their passions.
Professional footballer for Peterborough United, Ronnie Edwards, spent the day talking to budding sportspeople alongside his 16-year-old brother Frankie Edwards, a scholar with Colchester United. Representatives from several key industries, including healthcare, finance, gas and electricity were also in attendance.
During the day, pupils were excited to receive a virtual visit from scientist Kirstie Cleary. Kirstie spoke to the children about the important work she does in the Cancer and Immunology department at the University of Southampton, in particular, the importance of perseverance during difficult times.
Gina Bailey, Headteacher at William Martin C of E Infant and Junior Schools, said:
“We are very grateful to everyone who gave up their time to talk to our pupils about the qualifications and qualities that are needed to achieve their goals beyond school. You are never too young to set yourself aspirations and the children thoroughly enjoyed becoming inspired by all of our visitors”.
A parent from the school added: “My son came home buzzing from talking to Ronnie and Frankie Edwards but also talked really enthusiastically about seeing a ‘real’ scientist who wasn’t old, male and wearing a white coat!”
