We are very pleased to welcome Mike Ferguson as our new Chair of Trustees.
Working as a Director of the Vine Schools Trust for the last three years, Mike has built up a wealth of inside knowledge and experience when it comes to getting the best out of our multi-academy trust.
What inspired you to become a Director at Vine Schools Trust?
I initially began work as a Chartered Engineer, where I soon realised that success within an organisation is almost entirely dependent upon how you treat people. This inspired me to transition into teaching, which I’ve been doing in various universities across the world for the last 35 years (and still loving every single day). However, the ‘engineer’ in me lives on as I have an intensely practical approach to everything – engineers like to ‘make things work’! Embarking on a teaching career sparked my passion for helping people to become the very best version of themselves, an ethos which I hope to bring to my new role as Chair.
How are you planning on growing the Vine Schools Trust?
The Main Board of the Vine Schools Trust have ultimate responsibility for the performance of its schools, including over 4,600 children and their teachers. I am going to work closely alongside my colleagues to expand our Governance system, which enables Board Members to see hear, and understand what is going on throughout the entire Trust family.
What do you hope to achieve in your role as Chair?
During my tenure I hope that I can bring out the best of the enormous amount of talent that we have across the community of people who give their time and energy to the Trust. I’d like to make sure that we acknowledge everybody and that everybody feels valued and important, because, in the lives of the children we serve – we are!
What do you envision for the future of the Trust?
The Trust is, ultimately, a family – and I’d like it to feel like one. Despite family members having different needs and responsibilities, they never fail to support each other when times get tough. That’s what I envision for the future of the Trust.
THANKYOU MIKE
We’re excited to see what you bring to your new role.
